It's taken our pastor 5 years to get anyone to speak up during "joys and concerns", and I still miss the Gloria Patri.

Nonetheless, after a curiously awkward oath-taking and a fairly somber inaugural address, Rev. Lowery's final words helped establish a more balanced mood, I think.John Phippshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03245790061133614986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27951078.post-89712876669130689002009-01-21T08:18:00.000-06:002009-01-21T08:18:00.000-06:00Stole the show? Prayer was not a time to be flippant or cute.

Having said that, I am not certain Lowry meant it that way. It's just how I perceived it, given my frame of reference.

Regarding Lowry's frame of reference, of which I can scarcely relate to, I have seen evidence of it.

I can take you to a barbeque joint in North Carolina where there remain two eating areas, one in the front and one in the back. Of course, it is totally unsegregated now, but still gives an eerie feeling to this northener. Who grew up by the way, with regular vistors of different races in the minister's house. And those, like missionaries, who served others as equal men.

It is easy to forget others were not raised in the same environment.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
