In fact, we're working at FJ Media to try to find some way to make broadband a more affordable option. I think if we can entice sponsorships or something and get the cost down to around $40/mo. we could help a lot of you find out what the Internet is all about. (Be sure the deduct the cost of a second phone line you won't need - that's how I justified it to begin with.)
I hooked up to Wild Blue about 9 months ago and have been impressed with it so far. I did have the transmitter on the dish go out but the local distributor (our Rural Electric Coop) was out the next day to replace it.
I live too far away from town to get the DSL service offered by the phone company. So satellite was the only way we could get higher speed service. Once I had a faster connection I wondered how I ever lived with dialup.
