At least it wasn't a '57...

Contrary to all that's good and decent, some knuckle-headed car engineers smashed a classic 1959 Chevy just to make a point about how much better today's cars are.

[The whole sad story]

Of course, what they don't show is how the lack of seatbelts would have allowed the driver to be "thrown safely clear from the wreck".  At least, that's what my father always believed.

[Thanks, James]

In '56 my wife was a high school girl driving her father's Buick ( a big boat of a car) taking 6 kids home from Sunday School. A neighbor lady pulled out of a side road and they collided and the Buick rolled over. The top was mashed down to the seats. They were all thrown to the floor and none had injuries, except a few bruises. Seat belts would have killed them! Glad my father-in-law believed in big cars!!!

Looks like the '59 Chevy wrecked the worse. Seatbelts will always be 'controversial', I guess, as will airbags. But seatbelts and air bags kept that big buck Deer from coming through the windshield and doing major damage to my wife! So I will keep on using them! It is a shame what happened to that '59 Chevy though. What a Waste!

Ifin my momma would have been in there..her DNA would have instinctively threw her arm across the drivers chest, and any others in the back seat. Didn't need seat belts or airbags, with momma in the car.
..sure was a pitiful waste of a good car..
