For a crew to make the 50,000-light-year journey to the centre of the Milky Way within 10 years, they would have to travel at 99.999998 per cent the speed of light.

I'm apparently missing something here. If you are traveling at nearly the speed of light for 10 years, wouldn't you have only traveled 10 light-years? To go 50k light-years in 10 years should require traveling at 5000 times the speed of light.
